College Library COVID-19 Updates

The F&M College Library is committed to the continued support of the research and teaching of faculty and students. Our top priorities during this time are providing access and services safely, and ensuring that as many resources and services as possible are accessible both on and off campus. Our buildings are currently open to students, staff and faculty, retirees, alumni and employee family members using their F&M ID card for access during the hours listed here -  https://libcal.fandm.edu/hours/

 
If you are in the area and can safely travel, you can return items in the book drop at the left of the front door of the Shadek-Fackenthal Library. Otherwise, please feel free to mail items back to us at the address on our site, or if you are a student, complete our Library Returns Form and we'll be in touch. 

 

Collection Development Approaches in 2020-2021.

As Franklin & Marshall is using a hybrid method of instruction, the College Library is adjusting its collection development policies to best serve all students and faculty.  Because some students will not be on campus and will be only taking courses online, the library is committed to working to provide the necessary scholarly e-resources to meet their course and research needs. 

Faculty requests for course materials will be given the highest priority, including ebooks and streaming media. All attempts will be made to provide unlimited, simultaneous user access to these materials.

Collection development in general for this period, by faculty and librarians, should also be focused on supporting the curriculum. Ebooks will be the preferred format, due to the likely necessity of off campus access. The library will continue to purchase print books requested by faculty, but due to a reduced materials budget we might choose to get an ebook, or not be able to accommodate all of those requests in this particular environment.
