Sub-series VIII. Thomas Mifflin (b. 1744-d. 1800)

  • 1760 -was graduated from the College of Philadelphia (now University of Pennsylvania).
  • 1765 -toured Europe (England and France).
  • 1771 -elected to the Assembly.
  • 1774 -selected as delegate to the first Continental Congress.
  • 1775 -appointed aide-de-camp by Gen. Washington and given rank of Colonel.
  • 1776 -commissioned Brigadier-General.
  • 1780 -chosen to represent Berks County in the General Assembly.
  • 1783 -elected a member of Congress. 
  • 1787 -elected Trustee of Franklin College. 
  • 1790 -elected governor of Pennsylvania.

Sub-Series XXI. Joseph Mifflin, Jr.

  • 1806 Oct 5 -married Martha Houston. 
  • ca. 1813  -opened school in Columbia, PA.
  • 1814 -left teaching due to poor health. 

Series XXV. Lloyd Mifflin, Sr. (b. 1786-d. ca. 1878)

  • 1799 -student at Weston School. 
  • 1807 -moved from Philadelphia to Baltimore. 
  • 1811 -moved from Baltimore to Philadelphia. 
  • 1823 Mar 26 -married Hannah Hacker. 
  • 1867 -patented the sundial. 

Series XLII. John Houston Mifflin. (b. 1807-d. 1888)

  • 1833 - living in York, PA. 
  • 1835 - published Lyrics, a book of poetry.
  • 1836-1837- traveled and studied in Europe. 
  • 1839-1940 - living in Georgia and Florida.
  • 1844 Apr 9- married Elizabeth Ann Bethel Heise. 
  • 1845 Mar 31 - Bethel Mifflin born. 
  • 1846 - begins manufacturing Printers Ink. 
  • 1846 Sep 15 - Lloyd Mifflin, Jr. born. 
  • 1849 - daughter, Martha, dies. 
  • 1850 - Houston Mifflin born.
  • 1852 - James Deveaux Mifflin born. 

Series LI. Lloyd Mifflin, Jr. (b. 1846 - d. 1921)

  • 1869 - 1870- studied under Thomas Moran in Philadelphia.
  • 1871 - toured East Coast of the United States.
  • 1872 - 1873 - studied art in Europe; studied under Ernest Mueller of Munich, a sculptor, while in Germany.
  • 1876  - published Ventures in Verse under pseudonym Victor Leon. 
  • 1900 - published J. Houston Mifflin's Lyrics.  First published in 1835.
  • 1902 - built the Norwood presently standing in Columbia, PA. 
  • 1903  - Honorary Litt. D. from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA.
  • 1908 - Honorary DDL from University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA.
