Current Awareness: Alert Services Guide

This guide is designed to help faculty discover services that alert users to journal table of contents or newly added results to a saved search.

Table of Contents Alerts

JournalTOCs

  • Can use alerts to track the latest table of contents of individual journal issues (18,000+ titles to choose from; covers wide variety of disciplines)
  • Create an account to set up email alerts, then search for the journals for which you wish to receive alerts
  • Search for a journal by title then click on the RSS icon to add it to your preferred feed reader

 

IngentaConnect

  • IngentaConnect is a fee-based service, but individual researchers can create an account and create up to 5 issue alerts for free
  • Click on the "Register" button on the right side of the page to create a personal account
  • Once registered, click "Adding New Issue Alerts" and then click on the tab "Add" to select your 5 alerts

 

EBSCOhost Web

  • Click "Sign In" within the blue bar running along the top of this website. Sign in (using your My EBSCOhost login credentials) or create an account

Project Muse

  • You do not need to sign in to access alerts for journals indexed in Project Muse

Individual Publisher ToC Alerts

SpringerLink

  • Use when on-campus or follow these directions to connect to the campus VPN when off-campus
  • Sign into your personal account (or register for an account if you don't have one) by clicking the link at the top of the website
  • When you have searched for and found a journal title you're interested in following, click "Register for Journal Updates" link on the right-hand side under the menu Other Actions
  • This will bring you to the journal's homepage, and from there you can click enter your email address on the right-hand side under Alerts for this Journal

 

Elsevier - ScienceDirect

  • Sign in if you already have a personal ScienceDirect account, or register a new account
  • Once logged in you can set up "Journal or Book-Series Alerts." To set up an alert, click on "Publications" within the green bar at the top of the page and select the title of a journal or book you're interested in following. Once on the info page, click the link "Alert me about new articles" below the title
  • Once you set up an alert, it will be delivered to you via email

 

Oxford University Press Journals

  • Sign into your personal account (or register for an account if you don't have one)
  • On the following page, click the link "View alerting preferences." From there you can click on "Add eTOCs" and select the Oxford journals you wish to follow

 

Cambridge University Press Journals

  • Sign into your personal account (or register for an account if you don't have one)
  • Once logged in, look at the drop-down menu on the left and select "Content Alerts." Click on the "Add Content Alerts" option to select which Cambridge journals you wish to follow

 

Wiley Online Library

  • Register to create a new personal account or login to an existing account in the top right
  • Once logged in, set up journal alerts by clicking here to view the Wiley Online Library holdings. Once you find a journal of interest, click on its title. Along the left side you should see an option to "Get New Content Alerts" under the menu Journal Tools
  • You can change your alert service preferences here

 

American Chemical Society (ACS) Publications

  • At the top of the page, log in to your ACS account or click "Register" to create an account. You will need to register for a free ACS ID (username) in order to create an account for ACS Publications
  • After logging in, click on the "e-Alerts" menu option in the purple bar near the top of the website. You will be provided with a list of ACS journals to choose from and given alert preference options

Subject Guide
