Search Discover to find books and ebooks @ F&M:  

To perform a general, exploratory search in Discover:

• Start at the F&M College Library web site: library.fandm.edu
• Click on the BOOKS tab.
• Type in your search statement to perform a Keyword search.
• Search!

To perform a more specific search in Discover:

• Start at the F&M College Library web site: library.fandm.edu
• Click on Advanced Search.
  • Perform a Subject field search:
    • Click on the search type pop up menu and select: Subject.  Here is
      the Subject terminology for searching:
      • disab*
      • handicap*
         
  • Perform a combined Keyword and Subject search:
    • Example:
      • Keyword: "public school" AND policy
      • Subject: disab* OR handicap*
         
• Before clicking on the search button, select:
  • Format:  Book
  • Location:  Franklin & Marshall College
• Search!

To discover print books available beyond F&M:

• Follow the steps above, but change the location to: Libraries Worldwide.  Then:
• On the results page, select:
  • Format: Print book--because we can borrow print books (but not ebooks) from other libraries...
  • At the top of the page, next to the number of results, there is a pop-up menu: select Relevance Only

To search Discover for materials likely considered primary sources, add the following search statement to your topic search by copying-and-pasting it and perform an Advanced: SUBJECT search:

(documents OR interviews OR correspondence OR letters
OR speeches OR diaries OR memoir OR autobiography)

Example:  Advanced Search

• Keyword:  disabl* OR handicap*
• AND
• Subject: 

(documents OR interviews OR correspondence OR letters OR speeches
OR diaries OR memoir OR autobiography)

• Format: book

If you find a print book in DISCOVER to which we do not have immediate access, click on the button in DISCOVER to request the book from another library.

Use EZBorrow (EZB)/Interlibrary Loan (ILL) to request articles, book chapters, books, and other materials not available at F&M.
