Acquisitions
The Acquisitions Department is responsible for the execution of the Library's Collection
Development policies. To do so, it performs all purchasing, receiving, payment and budget
monitoring for all materials in all formats added to the Library's collections, accessed
electronically and received under U.S. Documents Depository Status. It also insures the initial
placement and renewal of all hard copy and electronic subscriptions, standing orders and licenses
for services and products available at the Library or through its website, and is responsible for
ERM. In addition, the Department prepares all serial commercial binding and serial in-house
binding.

Administration
The Library's Administration provides the glue that keeps the staff together and the oil that keeps
things running smoothly. In particular, questions on budget, staff and student hiring, facilities,
supplies, and general library policy can be directed here.
|
Archives & Special Collections
Archives and Special Collections is responsible for maintaining, promoting and preserving both
the visual and written record of the college (as the college archives) and the special collections
of the library. Special collections include published material such as rare books, maps, newspapers,
posters and prints, and unpublished material such as the personal, legal and business papers of
prominent local individuals, families, organizations or businesses. Reference services are provided
to faculty, administration, students, alumni and members of the public interested in the history of
the college or in any of the collections. Visit the Archives
website for more information.
|
Cataloging
The Cataloging Department is responsible for the metadata (description) of all Library materials,
both owned and accessed electronically. Most of this metadata is downloaded from OCLC (Online
Computer Library Center)--a database of over 60 million records. The records are then
verified and edited to match the item. Cataloged materials are barcoded, bookplated and labeled.
Cataloging also handles the repair and binding of books, as well as transfers and withdrawls.
|
Circulation
The Circulation Department checks out, checks in, and shelves library materials. Reserve items are
also circulated by Circulation. You must have a barcoded ID to borrow any library materials.
Go to the Locations & Policies for detailed circulation policy.

Collection Development
Collection Development is responsible for developing and maintaining the library collections.
This involves developing policy; managing the liaison system, in which all librarians
participate; providing selection aids, such as reviews, announcements, publisher's advertisements;
operating the university press approval plan; handling gift books and determining which will be
added to the collection; and overseeing the preservation of the library collections.
|
Interlibrary Loan
The Interlibrary Loan Department obtains library materials or copies of library materials for
current faculty, staff and students. E-Z Borrow
is also available for our college community to supply books-only from Pennsylvania-region libraries.
Community patrons are encouraged to review "Books & More" and "Journal Finder" on the Library home
page before proceeding with EZB and ILL requests. In addition, every effort is made to quickly
provide materials to outside libraries via US mail, fax, Ariel and UPS. Supplied materials should
complement but not duplicate the requestor's collection. See the Interlibrary
Loan web page for policies and ordering information.

Systems & Computing
Systems & Computing manages all Library servers and systems, public and office computers and
printers including GoPrint, and Library webpages. Edits and additions to the library catalog are
made daily, and frequent additions are made to the lists of library-supported online databases.
Every attempt is made to keep systems, computers and printers in optimal condition. And the Library
website is routinely edited to meet the needs of college community and specific classes, and
promote Library services.
