Limited FREE Printing

There is still FREE printing within a generous allowance, after which you are charged per page. Charges that accrue beyond the allowance will be sent directly to the Business Office, so there is no need for change or debit cards. Easy-to-follow directions can be found at each print station.

The Fine Print

  • The College offers a $10.00 allowance per student, per term (200 pages, if single-sided print jobs).
  • After the allowance is used, black & white printing costs $.05 per page for single-side print jobs, and $.025 per page for double-sided print jobs. And color printing costs $.50 per page for single-side print jobs, and $.25 per page for double-sided print jobs.
  • Unused allowances will NOT roll-over into the next semester.
  • Any accrued printing charges will appear on student bills twice per year.
  • Library staff can check and adjust user allowance/credit balances. Adjustment is limited to print problems due to hardware or software malfunction. Reimbursement forms are available at service desks in the Libraries and WorkRoom.
  • There is an 200 page limit per print job, with no limit to how many jobs you can print.
  • Print jobs will EXPIRE (disappear) from the GoPrint Station after 2 hours. Clock begins when print job is issued.
  • Powerpoint files will still print slowly, consider printing multiple frames per page, or choose Outline.
  • Double-side print jobs save money and paper!
  • Students. printing Honors Theses or doing Hackman research can also request credit for those print jobs.

Reducing Waste, Increasing Productivity

Printing has increased substantially over the last few years, as faculty have increased eDisk and Blackboard use, and the Library has added more full-text resources. In 2004-2005, F&M students printed over 1.5 million sheets of paper in the College Library.

This printing environment became unsustainable. Recycling bins rapidly filled with mistakes and unclaimed print jobs. Computers often couldn't handle print traffic and freeze, causing student and staff frustration.

Starting with the Fall 2005 term, the Library and Computing Services installed the GoPrint print-management system. Users are now able to print any and all files normally at the computer, then proceed to the GoPrint Station to either release or delete the print job.

GoPrint's Future

The Library and Computing Services staff will review GoPrint use after each term, to determine if any changes are needed. Your kind patience is ALWAYS appreciated. Library and Computing Services staff will be available to answer any questions and address any problems. You can also send ideas, comments or suggestions anonymously to TELL US!

Thank you, and happy printing!
