New Faculty Grants for Library Book Purchases

As a new tenure track faculty member, you are eligible for a grant of $500 for the purchase of books for the Library collection. To receive this grant, you must apply to Tom Karel, Collection Development Librarian (by e-mail, in person, by note, or by phone), before October 31.

These grants are for the purchase of books to be used by students in your courses or for your own use in course preparation, but not for your research. These funds may not be used to initiate new standing orders or periodical subscriptions.

Book selection is to be done in accordance with the Library's Collection Development Policy and with any library selection policy that the department may have. You should receive a copy of the Collection Development Policy as part of the Library packet for all new faculty.

Orders are to be submitted to the liaison librarian for your department, on regular library book order forms (pack enclosed). When ordering on this grant, write the word "Grant" in the "Dept." space of the order form. When ordering on the regular departmental library allocation, write the department's name in this space.

All Library grants and allocations must be committed by March 31, or they will revert to the Library.

Receipt of this grant should not decrease your access to the regular library allocation for your department.

Consult the Liaison Librarian chart to determine the library liaison for your department.  I encourage you to get acquainted with her/him and become familiar with book ordering procedures.
