Franklin & Marshall College Library

The last day for students to make Interlibrary Loan requests is
*** December 7th ***

ILL will make every attempt to obtain needed materials as soon as possible.
Call ILL with any questions or concerns, 291-4224, or stop by Monday-Friday from 8am to 4pm.

Franklin & Marshall College Library provides Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services to F&M students, faculty, staff and administration only. If you are not currently affiliated with F&M, please try your university or public library.

Before you proceed, did you already check the Library Catalog or Journals List to see if F&M owns the item you are requesting? Any requests for items we own will be returned to you via campus mail. Please be diligent in checking our holdings as this delays fulfillment of all requests. Outside users and other institutions, please review our ILL Policies.

You will be prompted for your F&M username and password when you choose any of the request links below.

Request an Article Request a Book Request a Renewal

The Interlibrary Loan process normally take about 2 weeks from the date of processing. You will be notified at your F&M email address when books may be picked up at the Shadek-Fackenthal circulation desk. Journal articles will be delivered to your campus mailbox. If you need material in a shorter time span, you must speak with an Interlibrary Loan staff member in the Reference Office of Shadek-Fackenthal Library, call 291-4224, or email i_loan@fandm.edu.

Overdue fines accumulate at a rate of $1.00 per day after a 1 week grace period. If necessary, charges for book replacement because of damage, being lost, stolen, etc, will be determined by the Lending Library.

There are 2 library buildings on campus: Shadek-Fackenthal Library for the humanities and social sciences, and the Martin Library of the Sciences for all life and physical sciences, including mathematics. The materials held in the main library are *usually* (no promises) processed with a one-day turnaround time, while the Science library requires extra time due to their location -- not right at our fingertips! Our Library Catalog and Journals List do indicate library location.

The Franklin and Marshall College Library participates with several consortiums including ACLCP, PALCI, SHELLCO, and the OBERLIN group. We use and prefer the IFM billing method. Our charges for both loans and photocopied articles are $15.00 to non-reciprocal/non-affiliated locations and we will invoice with the material. Reciprocal agreements and associations always remain in place. In order to become a reciprocal location with us, please contact our office for an official agreement.

We accept requests through OCLC, ALA forms, and faxed requests. Our loan period is 30 days/1 month and may renew items for another 30 days/1 month. Non-circulating items include: videos, audiovisual materials, CDs, microfilm (unless a book has been filmed under special circumstances, we can circulate), microfiche, periodicals, archived material, and rare books, as well as all reference materials. We will copy articles from periodicals, microfilm, and microfiche in the best copy possible. Our photocopy limit is 50 pages for any single article request. If we have a thesis in our collection, we will lend under the above conditions.

The office is open year round with the exception of winter break, which spans the dates of December 23 through January 2, as well as any other scheduled college closings or campus events. Library hours vary and can be found on the Library's homepage.

This information can also be found in our Name Address Directory on OCLC.

We hope the information provided assists you with your ILL endeavors. Please contact the ILL Office if you have any further questions. We'd be happy to hear from you.
