Welcome to the Franklin & Marshall College Library Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service! The service is
available to F&M students, faculty, and professional staff. If you are not currently affiliated with F&M,
please consult with your college/university library or local public library. |
To place a request, please select from the options below. You will be prompted for your NetID and password to gain access to the request form (example) username: bfranklin, password: fummer2
The ILL process takes anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks, depending upon the availability of requested items. Faster processing occurs on a case-by-case basis, and requires consultation with an ILL staff member. Please either visit the Reference/ILL office in the Shadek-Fackenthal Library, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 717.291.4224.
For books, you will be notified through your F&M e-mail account when the item is ready to be picked up at the Shadek-Fackenthal Library Circulation Desk. The due-date will be noted on the yellow band attached to the cover of the book. The fine for overdue ILL books is $1.00/day. Should a book be lost or damaged while in your possession, replacement charges will be determined by the lending library.
For articles or other non-book items, you will receive either an online copy sent as an attachment to your F&M e-mail account, or a print copy sent to your F&M campus mailbox (students) or department mailbox (faculty and professional staff).
Policies for Lending and Borrowing Institutions
The ILL staff at F&M strive to provide the best service to all Lending and Borrowing institutions. The following should provide all the information your location may need to know in order to obtain material from our Library, as well as receive the best service possible in a timely fashion.
OCLC symbol: LFM
There are 2 library buildings on campus: Shadek-Fackenthal Library for the humanities and social sciences, and the Martin Library of the Sciences for all life and physical sciences, including mathematics. The materials held in the main library are usually processed with a one-day turnaround time, while the Science library requires extra time because of its location. Our Library Catalog and Journal Finder provide location information.
The F&M library participates in several consortia, including ACLCP, PALCI, SHELLCO, and the OBERLIN Group. We prefer the IFM billing method. Our charges for both loans and photocopied articles are $15.00 for non-reciprocal or non-affiliated locations and we will invoice with the material. Reciprocal agreements and associations always remain in place. In order to become a reciprocal location with us, please contact our office for an official agreement.
We accept requests through OCLC, ALA forms, and faxed requests. Our loan period is 1 month and items may be renewed for another month. Non-circulating items include: videos, recordings, DVDs, CDs, microforms, periodicals, archived material, rare books, and all reference materials. We will produce the best copy possible of articles from periodicals, microfilm, and microfiche. Our photocopy limit is 50 pages for any single article request. If we have a thesis in our collection, we will lend as noted above.
The ILL office is open all year with the exception of winter break, which usually begins 2-3 days prior to the Christmas holiday and concludes 1-3 days after the New Years Day holiday. Library hours vary during the summer (mid-May through late-August), fall and spring breaks, and can be found on the Library's homepage.
All contact and policy information can also be found in OCLC.
Please contact the ILL Office if you have any questions. We would be happy to hear from you.
