How To Find Journal and Newspaper Articles

Available from the Library web page under Indexes and Article Collections. Browse the entire list to find databases relevant to your particular topic. The databases listed below are most likely to be useful:

ACS (American Chemical Society) Publications: Provides fully edited articles with complete graphics and links from all 35 ACS publications. Articles appear online anywhere from two weeks to three months before the article is available in print. Coverage extends back to 1879.
FirstSearch: A collection of over 60 subject-specific indexes and databases (most are listed here).
General Science Full Text: Journals and magazines from the U.S. and Great Britain, covering all major scientific fields. Indexing from 1984 to present, abstracting from 1993 to present.
GEOBASE: More than 500,000 records covering international literature on geology, geography, and ecology. Covers 1980 to present.
GeoRefS: Nearly 2 million records about geology and earth sciences. Covers 1785 to the present (North America) and 1933 to the present (entire world).
Lexis-Nexis: Connections to full-text newspaper articles from US and international papers, news magazines, business publications, and legal resources. Coverage goes back at least 20 years for most titles.
SciFinder Scholar: A desktop research tool with point and click access to Chemical Abstracts and Medline information. It is a client-server product which requires installation. Contact the Science Librarian for more information. Available for searching in the Chemistry Department and Science Library Tech Room. SFS is available for campus use only; our license limits use to 2 simultaneous users from a pool of 3 institutions. Covers 1907 to the present.
Web of Science (ISI): The Institute of Scientific Information's premier citation databases in the physical, life, and social sciences. Search for articles that cite a known author or work or by standard search queries. Covers 1970 to the present.

Finding Journals at F&M

The library subscribes to many chemistry journals. Most of these journals contain original research; some include review articles, book reviews, and association news. If you are searching for a specific journal title, go to the Library's homepage and choose "List of Journals with Holdings at F&M."
