African American Voices: Digital History
A simple database edited by Steven Mintz of the University of Houston. The plain web appearance belies its usefulness as each excerpt is given full citation. Excellent for locating primary resources.

The American Civil War Homepage
The American Civil War Homepage is an excellent place to begin Civil War research because it gathers together in one place to the most useful identified electronic files on the subject.

American Memory
The American Memory Historical Collections, a major component of the Library's National Digital Library Program, are multimedia collections of digitized documents, photographs, recorded sound, moving pictures, and text from the Library of Congress' Americana collections. Note the database of battlefield photos from the Civil War.
