  Special Collections

Charles Steinman Foltz, Jr. Papers

This collection consists of the travel notebooks, research material, photographs, and personal files of noted Associated Press and US News & World Report journalist Charles S. Foltz, Jr. (1910-2005). The son of Charles S., editor and publisher of the Lancaster Daily Intelligencer and News-Journal, and Josephine Kieffer Foltz, an artist, he prepared for college at Franklin & Marshall Academy and completed college at Franklin and Marshall, graduating in 1931. In 1954, He received an honorary degree from Franklin and Marshall College and later served as a trustee. For many years he served as a foreign correspondent, most notably in Spain during the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939. A highlight of this collection are materials from this time period.

Humane League of Lancaster County Records

Founded as the Woman's Humane League in 1917 by Maud Haldeman, this collection contains the administrative, outreach, and publicity records of the Woman's Humane League of Lancaster County, a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to, and care of, children, girls, aged persons, and animals within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In more recent years, the mission of the Humane League of Lancaster County has been to ensure the health, happiness and welfare of domesticated animals in Lancaster County. Strengths of the collection include comprehensive minutes and financial records of the organization, and an extensive run of organizational newsletters. Additional strengths include a lengthy run of newspaper clippings from the 1950s through the 1980s.
