Genl. McClelan[sic]
just telegraphed the Governor that he achieved a splendid victory yesterday
afternoon and that rebel army for Shepardstown, Va.[?] in perfect panic with
his army in pursuit that he McClellan has full possession of South Mountain
range. If any damage is done to
Franklin Road the General wants it repaired immediately as his supplies must go
over it if possible for the large cavalry force at Greencastle to move they
could do much good in harassing the enemy and in capturing prisoners. We shall send you troops as fast as
possible. Will you forward your
infantry from Chambersburg to Hagerstown this P.M.? Answer.
