Maj. Gen. Stahel,
I wish you to keep
advised of the movements of the column under Col. DeForrest and the brigade
with himself[?]. Keep up
communication with him and advise me of all information gained of the
enemy’s movements or position.
The 3d Corps move by Mouth of Monocacy, Point of Rocks, Peterville,
& Brikeadsville[?]; the 1st Corps by way Barnesville, Adamstown, &
Jefferson. I wish your cavalry to
scout on their front & assess[?] their march, giving then all necessary
information of any form of the enemy in their front.
Gen. Hooker
telegraphs he will be at Poolesville by 9 o’clock tomorrow morning. Gen. Doubleday commands the 1st Corps;
Gen. Birney the 3d & Gen. Howard the 11th.
