You will please proceed at once to make the demonstration directed by the Genl. Comdg. via dispatch just transmitted to you.

The General relies upon your judgment in making the demonstration without converting it into an attack. Genl. Howe’s or Newton’s Division will be sent to report to you. When you have assumed as threatening an attitude as you deem advisable, maintain it until further orders.
