(Washington 4th July 1838)
My Sister dear,
I take breathing time
to tell you I shall leave
here for home on Friday
morning & shall be in Lancaster on
Saturday evening, you
must hurry with my clothes, for I will
have but one week to
stay with you,
Captain Wilkes can
spare me best at present, and will require
me to return here to
continue obsns before I join the squadron
at Norfolk.
Hoping to find you all
well & busy, I am your most affec
Brother
